Barn Red: Texture Twist

Who doesn't love a classic red barn in any season? This handsome gem "Had me at Hello" with the lush vine growing along the side. Tucked between a grove of trees and a field of harvested corn the striking bold red contrasts against the empty blue sky.

Bring back a blown out or empty sky by adding depth with a classic vignette and texture.

Colors of Autumn: Pumpkin Orange

Join me Kristy, Life-n-Reflection and Lisa, Simply Living for a Colors of Autumn Photography Challenge! Weekly Oct 3rd thorough Oct 28th.

This week we are inspired by a rich Orange only found in Autumn! Our gorgeous oak tree that sits on the side of our hilly driveway always turns 1st. In early Sept orange leaves begin to fall and later in season they turn a bright red. Yet, my favorite orange of all is pumpkin orange! I love seeing that color pop up at the farmers market in all shapes in sizes. Where have you spotted orange this week?

Photoshop Tutorial: Make your Autumn colors burst post processing with these simple tips.

  1. Pull a gradient color in shade darker than your SOOC photo across your photo and blend the gradient layer on the color burn blending mode.
  2.  Duplicate your SOOC photo layer and blend the copy on the overlay blending mode.
  3. Apply an overlay texture like the Chiffon Overlays to your image for a warm saturation.  (P.S. enter to win the collection below)
  4.  Apply a contrast adjustment layer to your SOOC photo to boost overall color.
  5.  Apply a hue saturation adjustment layer to your SOOC photo sliding the adjustment bars towards the color you want to boost most

Texture Twist: September Wildflowers

I love to wander on the weekends. You never what you may discover when you've put your smart phone and agenda away. I found these lavender blooms growing along a buffalo pasture. I'm not quite sure what they are, but their color and spiky texture are intriguing. Where have you wander to lately?

The Country: On the Outskirts

I discovered this weathered American beauty on road trip. It was just on the outskirts of rural town near border of Illinois and Missouri. Half way hidden by corn stalks yet a contrast to the bright blue skies. Try the Photoshop tutorial below to boost contrast and depth in your next landscape photograph.

In the Studio: Tiger Lily

On our Wedding Anniversary this summer my husband brought me home 7 vases of flowers. Yes, seven. I spent hours the next day photographing all the unique beauties. This Tiger Lily was one of the most unique his picked. The yellow was so bright and I just had to see it softened up. What do you think?

The Country: Wildflowers

There's a lot of things to love about the countryside in Summer; tall golden prairie grass billowing in the breeze like waves in the ocean, lighting bugs dancing at twilight, and the call of the mourning dove over the foggy morning sky.

Wildflowers put on their own unique show. A show of color, where you least expect it. Wild thistles growing in along the edges of the pastures or lavender chicory amongst the clover in the meadows. Each are an intricate brush that paints summer in the country.
