First Snowfall

What is about the first snowfall that makes the world seem magical? Is it the lack of color? The contrasting dark silhouettes against the white? No, I think it must be the stillness that a soft blanket of snow can only bring. A humbling stillness that brings one to stop all the hustle and bustle of modern life.

What does the first snowfall mean to you? P.S. Don't forget to share your captures this Season below! In case you missed it, find my 5 tips for creating a Photography Planner. P.P.S. Come take a sneak peek at my new website, it's almost ready. I'll be hosting LNRseasons there next week!!

Winter Traveler

Getting lost or caught up in nature might be one of the best things you can do for you soul.  When snow falls in the woodlands, creating a blank canvas; it's easy to let the mind wander. The little things like seed pods dangling from the Red Bud tree tell a story. The drops of melting snow drip from their tips from snow heavy branches. The pods themselves reminds one of traveling. Will they stay or will they travel in the wind to grow roots of a new tree, a new story? What story will you write this year?

Winter Thistle

This beautiful thistle stands in the prairie just beyond our gate and little wooden bridge into the woodlands. I love wildflowers like these that retain their beauty throughout the seasons. You can see it in summer here with it's soft lavender hue.

I am so excited to announce the Life-n-Reflection's new weekly Photography Meme... SEASONS!! It's been a long time coming. I live and create a life connected to the seasons. Cooking with seasonal fresh produce, creating with in-season herbs and fragrances, filling our home with seasonal color, and wandlerlusting (yes, I just made up that word) with my camera in tow every season. I am still inspired by textures natural and enhanced. I will continue to share photography editing tips and tutorials without the weekly Texture Twist. The Seasons meme requires no texture. Seasonal photography, stories, and projects are welcome! The link up is open Monday through Friday each week and will be shared across Instagram too for those with or without a blog! Phew... now let's get this started!!

2017 Photography Calendar

Photography is an ART of observation. It has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.  - Elliot Erwitt

Life-n-Reflection is about reflecting on things we see, photograph, document, and record. We can most certainly  learn from our observations. My favorite way to share those observations is in a yearly calendar!  For my 2017 calendar I choose to create an Easel Calendar with Shutterfly. Let me just say, it is adorable! The calendar is a convenient 5" x 7" inch size printed on thick card stock. It even comes with a stand. Do you see it in the top photo above? Yes, that is real wood. You can use the wood stand for years to come or display stationery, prints, or printable signs. Keep reading for 5 Tips to Creating a Photography Calendar.

5 Tips for Creating A Photography Calendar:

    1. Choose a base template design or create your own in Photoshop for your calendar.Use the one I choose here or check out 100s of options at Creative Market ready to customize
    2. Select 12 photographs one for each monthly calendar. I highly recommend selecting or post processing your photographs to exert the same vibrancy. You wouldn't want one dull photo in the bunch.
    3. Instagram photos work great for this easel calendar! Or select portrait and landscape  photos to crop and clip into the design.
    4. Add a title or an inspiration quote in Photoshop over your photographs or in the designing process. It's quick and easy to add one during the design process and including many fonts choices.
    5. Always do a quick preview to see that your photographs are framed in a pleasing manner, especially if any cropping with occur during the printing.

    Texture Twist: Winter Berry

I savor my photography walks at our local botanical gardens. Especially this time of year, as we await winter snow. A few berries and seed pods will hang on through the long winter. The rest is blank landscape slumbering until spring.
