Hot Cocoa Milk Bottles


Make Hot Cocoa Milk Bottles

This week I'm sharing with you a special Winter treat from our Bittersweet Walnut Grove book series. Homemade Hot Cocoa was always enjoyed on the farm during the winter. Especially after shoveling snow, feeding the cows, or breaking up the ice in the water tanks.  This delightful Homemade Cocoa recipe is straight from the farm, published in Winter Thyme. It's incredibly easy to whip up and makes a great gift!

Print the Hot Cocoa Tags


Supplies:



      Make Hot Cocoa Milk Bottles

      Start with Mom's Homemade Hot Cocoa Recipe, then follow the directions below to make adorable bottles to share or have at your next Winter get-together! 


      DIRECTIONS:

      Fill glass milk bottles 3/4 full with Homemade Hot Cocoa. Next, add a 1 inch layer of mini chocolate chips. Pour mini marshmallows into each milk bottle until full. Place on lids and close.

      Die cut paper bows for each hot cocoa bottle or cut by hand. Score and fold to form each bow. Set aside.

      Print hot cocoa tags onto one sheet of white card stock.  Punch or cut tags from card stock. Using glue dots secure a hot cocoa tag and paper bow to the neck of each bottle.

      Follow instructions on tags to enjoy a cup of hot cocoa.

      First Snowfall




      What is about the first snowfall that makes the world seem magical? Is it the lack of color? The contrasting dark silhouettes against the white? No, I think it must be the stillness that a soft blanket of snow can only bring. A humbling stillness that brings one to stop all the hustle and bustle of modern life.

      Winter Traveler


      Getting lost or caught up in nature might be one of the best things you can do for you soul.  When snow falls in the woodlands, creating a blank canvas; it's easy to let the mind wander. The little things like seed pods dangling from the Red Bud tree tell a story. The drops of melting snow drip from their tips from snow heavy branches. The pods themselves reminds one of traveling. Will they stay or will they travel in the wind to grow roots of a new tree, a new story? What story will you write this year?

      Winter Pine Room Spray


      Make Winter Pine Room Spray
      Who doesn't love the aroma of fresh pine during the holidays? Spray this mist on your Christmas tree, bed sheets, guest towels, and more. Spray your rugs before vacuuming or spritz a little on your just washed linens before drying.         Make Winter Pine Room Spray

        HAPPINESS IS HOMEMADE


        DIRECTIONS:

        In a glass liquid measuring cup add water and baking soda. Whisk until baking soda has blended. Using a funnel pour baking soda water into a spray bottle. Add 12 drops of essential oil or fragrance oil with a pipet dropper. Close the lid and shake well to combine. 

        Embellish your linen mist bottle with just a few more steps. Punch or cut a tag from the printed sheet of winter pine room spray tags.Whole punch the top the tag. Braid twine together and secure tag to the bottle. 
        Shake lightly before each use. A spray bottle with a fine mist is recommended.

        Winter Thistle



        This beautiful thistle stands in the prairie just beyond our gate and little wooden bridge into the woodlands. I love wildflowers like these that retain their beauty throughout the seasons. You can see it in summer here with it's soft lavender hue.


        I am so excited to announce the Life-n-Reflection's new weekly Photography Meme... SEASONS!! It's been a long time coming. I live and create a life connected to the seasons.         Texture Twist: Winter Berry



        I savor my photography walks at our local botanical gardens. Especially this time of year, as we await winter snow. A few berries and seed pods will hang on through the long winter. The rest is blank landscape slumbering until spring.

        Wintergreen


        Here's hoping this is the last of winter!  It's 75 and sunny today!

        Add taste of Wintergreen to your images!
        1. Drag and Drop the Cinnamon Texture on top your image
        2. In the Layers Palette set the blending mode of texture to Multiply
        3. Duplicate the Layer [Crtl J] set the new layer's blending mode to Color Burn
        4. With the top texture selected in the Layer Palette, slide the Opacity to around 50%

        Paper Leaves


        These "yesterday blooms" look like a paper mache sculpture to me. 
        I found them by the lake shore on an afternoon hike with my Aussie.  
        I'm just on cloud nine when I find small wonders in nature, especially when it's cold. 


        Turn a bare winter landscape
        into a bright shade of spring!
        1. Begin with a curves adjustment found just below the layers palette to brighten your hues. 
        2. Add a shade of sunshine by duplicating your image. Set the duplicated layer to screen or hard light and adjust the opacity to your liking.
        3. To soften the contrast and shadows add the Enchanted Texture on a blending mode of overlay at 100% opacity.
        4. Duplicate the texture layer and change this top layer's blending mode to darker color.  I slid my opacity down to 20%.

        Not Forgotten


        Age your images!
        1. Add the New Inventory Texture on a darken blending mode at full opacity
        2. Duplicate the layer [Ctrl J] and change this layer's blending mode to linear burn
        3. Reduce the opacity to reveal more of your images original hue.  I  skimmed my opacity down to 16%
