Explorer Extraordinaire

When I put this still shot together I was thinking of an early 19th century National Geographic Photographer. As a kid I used read my Grandfather's National Geographic collection spanning form the 1930s to current.  It was always the photographs they held my interest. When were you first captivated by photography?

Take your photos on an Adventure!
  1. Add a the Sugar n Spice Texture blended on linear burn.  Slip the opacity just a few percent down
  2. Duplicate the layer [Ctrl J] and change this layer's blending mode to soft light.  Cut the opacity in half!
  3. For an aged look drop the Worn Paper Texture on top and set the blending mode to color.  Lower the opacity to reveal your photo's original colors
P.S.  You can download this tutorial to use in Photoshop on the Screencast page! And if you haven't already check out The Science of Textures ebook and Texture Giveaway!

  16. Great edit and how many old cameras you have!?
I did't know what to do after our high school ( which is little different than yours) so I went for two years adult education school to study photographing before I went to art school for four years.

I think my love for photography began with my Father's old Polaroid camera. Loved everything about it, and still do.

  33. An unusually graceful bit of photoshop work. I love that the finished image looks completely of one piece, somehow.

And thank you for your question about what began the love of photography. I've been thinking about that myself. For me, my parents had a copy of the book of the "Family of Man" photography show at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. I pored over that volume many, many times. I can't tell you how deep the visual lessons went. All black and white, to be sure, but all the photos told a story or evoked a strong mood, or even opened up new, foreign worlds. The book is over 50 years old and still powerful, still recommended for any photographer or photojournalist.

  35. Very vintage. I enjoy this capture.

    ...

My love affair with photography started with my grandfather's old black and white zoo shots. I was so drawn in by them.

  36. I took photography in high school. We each made a camera out of a shoebox! I still laugh at that, but it worked pretty good. The pics came out somewhat "ghostly". I love your blog, it is very helpful, lots of good content! V.
