The Country: Bees

A Bee Story

While on our annual country tour, we stumbled upon this bee hive. I don't think I've seen one since I was a child.  The discovery surprised me and left a air of mystery.  In medieval, Elizabethan, and Stuart times, bees were regarded as mysterious, intelligent, and holy. I wonder what story a bee would tell us if we could understand?

  2. That is so amazing. I remember someone brought a wasp hive (empty) in to school when I was a child, but I haven't seen one since. Some how the leaves just emphasize its beauty.

    1. Tish, I know - it makes me wonder how many bees live in the hive?

  6. Are your trees leafed out like that already??? Our maple trees have only leaf buds! Last year, we had our trees pruned while they were still full of golden leaves....high up in one tree was a huge nest like the one you found. Luckily, it was the end of the season and the wasps had left. The tree trimmers carefully cut the branch with the hive so it could be given to a young boy who "collects" them.

    1. Evelyn, our fruit trees are blooming and rest are just starting to bud. This was taken our country tour last Oct. Thank goodness you had your trees trimmed last year then when it was the end of season.
